No time to wait for your phone to charge up! Fast charging, a key feature in today’s portable devices, keeps batteries quickly topped up during busy days. However, there are various fast charging standards defined by different manufacturers. Some use high current with special cables and some use high voltage to deliver power. The USB Power Delivery (PD) is the universal fast charging standard, enabling the maximum functionality of USB by providing more flexible power delivery up to 100W (20V/5.0A) along with data transfer over a single USB Type-C cable. Since the USB cables are relatively easy to find, it operates with and builds on the existing USB ecosystem. The USB PD allows a wide range of devices to charge over a standard connection quickly and to make a connection between devices easily.
What makes Richtek the expert in USB PD and Fast Charging ?
Building on the expertise of power management and digital control technology, Richtek has brought our innovation to USB PD solutions. We have developed AnyPowerTM technology to support the latest standard of USB PD 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (PPS) for dynamic voltage/current regulation in 20mV/50mA steps. What also differentiates Richtek from other USB PD suppliers is we understand the importance of USB power safety from the perspective of power management. Richtek’s PD Safe® technology is to reduce any risks of short circuit or overvoltage/current in misconduct connections. Based on the embedded MCU design to facilitate both hardware and software control, our products can fully support fast charging in USB Type-C and PD as well as other proprietary protocols.
Every USB PD implementation is application specific. We have offered extensive and innovative product portfolio for a wide range of applications. Partnering with world leading telecommunication manufacturers, recently we have released the highly integrated USB PD and bi-directional Buck-Boost controller for small and simplified 40W power bank designs.
